Mark always wanted to propose to Jessica internationally, so where better than in beautiful Australia? However making it an unforgettable experience, while organising it from the USA and keeping it a secret from Jessica was the challenge of a lifetime. Written by Aaron Hall, The Proposal Guru Photography by Ged Goodwin Photography - https://gedgoodwin.com/ Mark and Jessica’s Worldwide Travelling TraditionsMark and Jessica’s love for travel has transformed into an incredible tradition. Every year for the past five, Mark and Jessica have planned a surprise destination for each other’s birthday. In secret, they will plan the country, flights, accommodation and activities. “We each know that we are going on a holiday and get advice to pack for warm or cold, however the birthday person doesn't know where we are going until we get to the airport”. The couple has experienced the world this way, with notable destinations including Italy, Japan, Korea, Greece, Singapore and the Philippines. As this trip was celebrating Jessica’s birthday, Mark had free rein to plan the entire trip, include his spectacular proposal. Mark chose to travel to Australia, flying between Sydney, Gold Coast and Melbourne. Mark had always wanted to propose internationally, so this was his perfect opportunity to propose without Jessica expecting it. The Turning Point For MarkMark and Jessica, from San Francisco, USA, have been together for 12 years. Having met through mutual friends, the couple always knew they wanted to be together, moving in together within the first year. “When some couples start to live together they find it challenging, but for us, it was perfect. We have never been apart since”, says Mark. Mark explains the turning point in their relationship was at a friend's wedding a few years ago. The wedding was a major spectacle, featuring over 700 guests. Having prior introduced Jessica to countless people, Mark accidentally introduced her as his wife. After correcting and laughing off the remark, Mark reflected as to why he was still calling Jessica his girlfriend. “Since then, that’s been on my mind and that’s where the plan formed from”. The Warm Up ProposalIronically, on the first leg of their trip to Australia in Sydney, Mark and Jessica witnessed another proposal. Jessica posted a photo of the proposal on Instagram that was instantly celebrated by family and friends online. Thinking Mark had proposed to Jessica, loved ones were temporarily thrilled until Jessica posted a second photo with the caption: ‘Look what we just witnessed!’ Mark secretly thought this was hilarious, knowing that this was just days before their own proposal. Quite an emotional roller coast for Jessica’s online followers! The ProposalWhen Mark reached out to us at The Proposal Guru, he was trying to decide the perfect destination to propose between the Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne. Mark wanted to create a magical engagement proposal experience that Jessica would remember forever. We started brainstorming countless variations from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, both in the type of proposal and how to make it a surprise for Jessica. We developed a fake trail to keep the plans a secret from Jessica. The story was that Mark's work back in the US gave the couple a complimentary Catamaran experience, as a reward for excellent work throughout the year. Mark told Jessica to dress up for the occasion and that there may be some co-workers in attendance. “She completely bought it and had absolutely no idea what was happening.” “When we arrived and it was only the two of us on a Catamaran that would usually fit 20 guests. That private experience made it so much more special. I told her we got lucky!” Mark and Jessica cruised the Gold Coast Broadwater for 2 hours. They saw dolphins, took amazing photos and snuggled close together watching the setting sun. “We sat up on the front of the Catamaran. It was amazing weather and such a beautiful setting.” As per our careful planning, just as the sun was setting on the horizon, the Catamaran arrived at our carefully selected beach location. Mark said to Jessica; “That’s weird, we are not heading towards the port. What does that say on the shore?” As they cruised closer to the shore and the words came into view, written into the sand were the words ‘Marry Me Jessica’. Awaiting the couple on the beach was a scattered rose petal pathway, fairylight archway, styled columns, photos of Mark and Jessica’s favourite moments and 80 dancing candles. Discreetly to the side, two photographers captured the moments so the couple would remember their next moments together. It was at this stage with emotions on overload, Jessica started to cry, knowing that this was the moment she would be proposed to. Mark and Jessica departed the Catamaran and hand in hand, progressed down the rose petal and tealight pathway. Surrounded by dancing candles and in front of the lady he loves more than anything, Mark bent to one knee to propose. She said Yes! “It was such an emotional experience” - said Jessica. “I couldn’t totally hear what Mark was saying. I was just so happy, I loved everything!” The Engagement RingMark proposed to Jessica with an incredible pear-shaped diamond ring. One Incredibly Happy CoupleMark and Jessica were thrilled with their Sailing Fairytale Engagement Proposal. “It went so smoothly and it was such a beautiful proposal setting. Jessica had absolutely no idea this was going to happen. We couldn’t have asked for better experience, thank you so much!” - Mark. We wish Mark and Jessica all the happiness in the world together.
